February is a crazy month, teaching-wise, and just in general living here in Portland, so I'm going to be taking a short break from writing (gotta save my mental energy a bit). Sorry to my regular readers, but I'll be back at it (relatively) soon.
Not stopping the blog, as you can see by my post today. Just acknowledging my lower energy and the likelihood that I'll post more infrequently for a minute.
"Chop-tensils" is a reference to hipster-designed eating implements that combine the form and function of Asian chopsticks with European eating utensils (forks, knives, etc.) Sort of like how I combine being Chinese AND white into an aesthetically-pleasing, functional-yet-acceptable human vessel.
This blog is the take of an ethnically-ambiguous, Chinese/White male. I have a very distinct interest in the racial experience in America, yet I seldom see myself represented in all the blogs and articles I read online. Therefore, in a time when - more and more - people like to talk about mixed-race folks "building bridges of understanding" between races, it seems appropriate to throw my two cents in.
So here's the perspective of an American that walks the line between races - experiencing aspects of many different races without being accepted by any of them.
Read, ponder, and comment, and I hope you learn something (or teach me).
